F. BECOMING AND GROWING AS A DISCIPLE

F.9: How do I find the will of God? [Romans 12:1-2 & John 7:17]

A Story

A young man on the college campus came up and asked, “How will I know what God’s will for my life is?  He had ideas of what he wanted and places he wanted to go but he was wholehearted about his love for God and wanted to do this will. I shared these three questions that I had learned at a Navigator conference. They have always been helpful.

There are three questions that all people will ask in light of God’s will:

  1. Who am I going to live my life for? For God or Self?
  2. Who am I going to live my life with? Future Mate?
  3. What am I going to live my life doing? What will be my work?

If you are asking these questions, then let’s look at a few passages of scripture:

Digging Into The Bible

Romans 12:1:

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God- this is your true and proper worship.”

Romans 12:2:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is- his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

John 7:17:

Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.
